Youth Volunteers at OVY Camp are called CITs, which stands for Counselor-in-Training. You do not have to be a former OVY camper to become a CIT at OVY Camp. 

You are eligible to be a CIT if you are at least entering into 10th grade next year and are under 18 years of age.

CIT duties include supervision of a cabin group of about 6-8 campers from Sunday afternoon until Friday morning. CITs assist the instructional staff of the OVY Camp program by serving as positive and caring role models, by maintaining group safety, and by helping teach small, instructional units. CITs work under the supervision of OVY Camp Directors and Staff at all times. The success of the week’s program depends on the effectiveness of the CITs.

The program provides high school and soon-to-be college aged students with leadership training, room and board, and an experience working with people that will be valuable for future career or educational opportunities. OVY Camp will gladly sign off on community service hours for CIT’s that meet or exceed expectations!

The program is conducted at OVY Camp and Event Center in San Gregorio, CA – about 3 miles from La Honda and 5 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The 100-acre site has cabins, a large central food service, a pool, and a variety of beautiful nature areas. The camp address: 5360 La Honda Rd. San Gregorio, CA  94074.

Being a CIT is a challenging, yet incredibly rewarding experience. CITs learn invaluable leadership skills while making new friends and exploring the natural environment. Many CITs have said that their week at OVY Camp was a life-changing experience. 

This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone interested in building their resume AND having fun at the same time. 

Also worth noting, many CITs end up getting hired on as paid staff after gaining experience as a Counselor-in-Training.
